NEW SONG IN PROGRESS: "Hurricane", Christene Jackman

October 6, 2017

Most of the time, I start with lyrics. Sometimes the music and lyrics come at the same time. Here's step #1 of the song I'm currently working on. As your reading them, hear a Jazz type of music. Think Harry Connick Jr. I'll post a rough draft with the music when I get it. Still Tweaking.

This song is dedicated to Joseph Levitch (Jerry Lewis) who passed away at 91, August 20, 2017.

HURRICANE, Christene Jackman ©&(p) 9.27.2017. BMI Work No: 025553999

For Joseph (Jerome) Levitch.  Music style: Jazz Ballad.

I saw the news on the net – a headline of the day
An old friend I’d never met - had gone and passed away
Echoes of laughter - pratfalls and tears
Thank you, my friend - for all of those years
Thank you, my friend - for all of those years
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Heaved a sigh at the looking glass – glimpsed a weary face
Dancing lines of chorus cast – silver strands keeping pace
Your leaving gave me pause - to stop and reflect
Make this life count - one time’s all you get.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CHORUS:
Time is a tyrant, a goose-stepping fiend
A taunting tirade taking over the scene
Each tick of the clock heralds: fade and wane
We’re all but a breath – against the Hurricane
We’re all but a breath – against the Hurricane
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Can’t you hear Eternity - thunderin’ in your chest
It’s the sound behind the heartbeat - the wind that drives the crest
There’s a Door and there’s a Knock - a time to fling it wide
A final curtain waits for all - and there’s no one that can hide.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CHORUS ~ Then Instrumental CHORUS duet w alto sax/muted trombone
Time is a tyrant, a goose-stepping fiend
A taunting tirade taking over the scene
Each tick of the clock heralds: fade and wane
We’re all but a breath – against the Hurricane
We’re all but a breath – against the Hurricane
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Make the Choice that must be made - while it’s called “Today”
Your ticket’s already paid - by Hands that paved the Way
So before fade to black – with stub clenched in hand
Live this life well – Live this life well – Live this life well – and strike up the *band.

* NOTE: On the final word, "band"--Upbeat Swing Music starts, like"In The Mood" by Glenn Miller band), with swing dancers, spotlight on dancer/actors acting out "living life well: doing mitzvot.
